Four and More 2015: Luers, Dean, Smith, austraLYSIS
soundsRite home about email: editorial group
By Roger Dean and Hazel Smith and austraLYSIS. (Roger Dean, composer, computer performer; Hazel Smith, text, text performer).
This work features text by Hazel, which is performed but also becomes part of a transforming and morphing sonic texture. The texture is created with reference to object size and overtone structure using both conventional techniques of spectral manipulation, and some more specific to voices and voice morphing. The work uses mild crackles and clicks in some sections.

The originating vidoe of Hypnagogia was created by Will Luers as a 3 minute work, intended to be presented palindromically (forwards followed by backwards, to occupy 6 minutes), together with a real-time video transformation surrounding it on the screen and 4 channel sound. This presentation of the work embodies those components (whereas previous versions solely present the originating palindrome together with stereo sound). The real-time video manipulation was done algorithmically in Jitter by Roger Dean, who also provided a MAXMSP algorithmic audio composition, performed together with saxophone by Sandy evans, and additional computational sound by Greg White (all members of austraLYSIS).
